The following list of initiatives recently appeared in an industry publication and we constantly strive to administer similar policies as often as is practical:
- Send invitations by email rather than by post
- Create online application forms
- Pick an eco-friendly venue
- Encourage suppliers to adopt green policies
- Invite inspirational speakers on corporate social responsibility
- Organise common transport for travelling delegates
- Choose eco-friendly giveaways
- Minimise packaging
- Provide recycled stationary
- Print handouts on both sides of a sheet of recycled paper, using biodegradable ink
- Give event materials in cotton bags, with your message printed, which delegates can reuse
- Use glass and china that are reusable
- Use biodegradable service-ware and avoid Styrofoam by any means
- Provide recycling areas that are signposted and clearly marked on site maps
- Open the window and turn off the air conditioning
- Serve locally grown fruit and vegetables
- Decorate the venue with potted flowers, which delegates can take home with them
- Organise extracurricular activities that combine fun and raise environmental awareness
- Donate to a green initiative or preservation fund
- Promote green thinking throughout the event’s marketing campaign
